The best everyday carry keychain flashlight: RovyVon Aurora

When I rebooted the EDC Weekly, I decided it was time to finally give daily carrying a flashlight a go. Until now, I've never been able to find a keychain flashlight that I loved or one that even enticed me. They're all bulky, not bright enough, or require AAA batteries.

I scoured the internet in search of a flashlight that checked all the boxes, and the only one I came across was from RovyVon -- a Chinese brand I'd never heard of. I took a gamble that, after a month of carrying the flashlight, I can say paid off.

The RovyVon Aurora comes in three styles: the A1 in polycarbonate with a steel bezel, the A2 in stainless steel, and the A3 in anodized aluminum. At 2 inches (5.1 centimeters) long and 0.5 inches (1.3centimeters) in diameter, it's really close in size to a Victorinox Classic SD. It's also IPX-65 certified for water-resistance.

It's powered by a single CREE XP-G3 S5 LED that puts out 550 lumens at a maximum distance of 80 meters. And the 130 mAh battery should last 19 minutes at 550 lumens, 29 minutes at 210 lumens and 900 minutes at 19 lumens. Once the battery dies, the flashlight can be recharged in about 45 minutes via the micro USB port.

The price of the Aurora varies depending on which model you buy. The polycarbonate A1 will set you back $26.95. The stainless steel A2 is the most expensive at $39.95. Finally, the anodized aluminum A3 costs $29.95.

In the box, you get a neoprene arm strap, ball chain necklace, removable clip, and a micro USB cable.

I've used the flashlight almost daily since it arrived and I've been charging it roughly every other day to twice per week. I've yet to have the flashlight die on me and complaints are minimal. The only thing I wish I could change about the flashlight is adding a fourth mode -- moonlight -- at 5 lumens or less.

It's been a fantastic addition to my EDC and it's going to take something special to make me want to change it anytime soon.
